Monday 9 September 2013

Hi, so far we have been spending a little time getting to know each other, discussing the course, expectations, and procedures.

Friday Sep. 6 / Mon Sep. 9

Science 9:
Hand in safety assignment - 1.1 worksheet and p. 4,5 from workbook
KMT summary p. 19
Copy Figure 1.10 p. 21
Reading Check 1-7 p. 21
We also have been watching "History of Chemistry"- a BBC documentary available on youtube.

Lab next class!

Biology 11
We are starting with an in-depth look at how the planet was formed and the first life forms appeared (ancient bacteria). Some of these bacteria started living in large colonies and evolved photosynthesis which changed the oceans and the air by introducing oxygen. Some of this oxygen eventually formed ozone which blocked a large part of the uv rays coming form the sun and allowed life to evolve on land.....

We have been using "The Story of Earth" - National Geographic as our guide and have completed Q1,2,3 in 17.2 of the textbook - Biology (Miller-Levine - Dragonfly cover)

Biology 12

So far we have discussed the chemistry of water, and some of the reasons why it is important to life. Today I will hand out text books and course outlines and continue in the study of chemistry with a particular emphasis on atoms, molecules, types of bonding, types of compounds, water and pH.

We will be covering (with worksheets and videos and some molecular models) Chapter 2.1. 2.2 and 2.3

I also plan on watching a bit of "From Big Bang to Man" from the Cassiopea project.
